Successful projects and ongoing work with commissioners and township staff since 2016 to establish methods for planning, funding, and installing of sidewalks to improve community safety:
Trent Rd on Penn Wynne Elementary School property - Utilized understanding of the Township’s Land Development process to successfully negotiate a requirement that LMSD install this sidewalk in order to add the modulars to the property. (2016)
Sidewalk Pilot Program (2018): Trent Rd between Suffolk and Remington Roads - Advocated for commissioner discretionary funds to support a pilot program to install three sidewalks. This sidewalk connected families in the walk zone to safely walk to Penn Wynne Elementary. The success of this pilot program led to the Board of Commissioners’ recent commitment to dedicate $8M over the next six years on sidewalk installations.
Montgomery County Safe Routes to School - Served on a committee to increase crossing guards at key intersections around Penn Wynne Elementary, improve school zone traffic signage, and collaborate with parents to encourage walking to school. (2018)
Intersection at Remington and Haverford Roads - Worked with Township staff, LMPD Traffic Safety Division, and commissioners to prioritize, fund and upgrade the intersection and crosswalks. (2021)
Penn Wynne Elementary Student Dropoff/Pickup Car Line — Collaborated with Lower Merion School District administration, Lower Merion Police Department Traffic Safety Division, and Lower Merion Township staff to redesign the school drop-off/pickup car line in order to mitigate traffic backups on Suffolk and Haverford Roads. (2016)
Friends of Penn Wynne Park - Formed the Friends of PW Park group and recruited leadership. Planted over 300 trees, worked with the Township engineer and Parks & Recreation on installation of a bioswale and native plantings, formed a partnership with Friends’ Central School as a designated service project for students.
Preserved the Penn Wynne Elementary School playing field - Successfully negotiated with Lower Merion School District to save the field during plans to expand the building, and require any future parking lot be placed at the front of the building, preserving the open field and playground.
Sustainability Awareness - Ongoing coordination with the Township Sustainability Manager to speak at various Penn Wynne Civic Association meetings and Federation of Civics events to provide education and promote initiatives.
At the invitation of Township staff and commissioners, I served on a panel of community leaders to establish priorities for the search for the new LM police superintendent. (2023)
Collaborated with the Penn Wynne Civic, business owners, and a Penn Wynne artist to design and create a mural for beautification of the Manoa Road shopping village. (2016)
Transparency with Township ordinance revisions - as President of the Federation of Civics, successfully advocated for a 30-day public review period prior to commissioner vote to advertise future ordinance amendments, allowing civic associations and the public adequate time to review and meet before authorization to advertise. (2024)
Successfully proposed several changes to the Zoning Code that were supported by the Board of Commissioners and adopted during the 2020 revision process: impervious surface coverage, parking requirements, institutional zoning. (2020)
